Workshop: Next Generation Digital Infrastructures
12:15—13:00
Speakers:
Amsterdam has invested heavily in superfast connectivity that links the city's cultural and academic centres. Through a vast amount of broadband, fast enough to enable HD-streaming, the city's activities are also connected to the rest of the world
This significant inward investment has catalysed world class cultural and economic activity which has, in turn, attracted new talent, business and inward investment. This test case has started to explore how people choose to live their lives in a fully connected digital society
Manchester wants to make a similar investment. In an aim to become one of the world's most connected cities, it hopes to install high-speed fibre to extend the Oxford Road Corridor project to the surrounding regions
Improved connectivity - within the right infrastructure - could redefine the future of the city, revolutionise culture, research, health care and education
In this workshop, David and Lesley will see what lessons can be learned from the Amsterdam story and discuss what Manchester and its city region need to do to become a world class Smart City
