Policy Futures: Towards a Framework for Sustainable Economies

12.10—13.00

Speakers:

The first Renaissance saw an explosion of knowledge across science and the arts. More importantly, it also saw a significant transfer of ideas and skills between different emerging areas

New technologies are enabling and forcing the emergence of new rules. Meaningful distributed communication between the different sectors during these turbulent times is crucial. The information tools of the New Renaissance period already ensure an almost inevitable transmission of knowledge between all areas of the world at unprecedented rates

Policy makers, industry and researchers need to be more connected to other parts of society, have more permeable and flexible boundaries and procedures, and be open to bottom-up ideas, projects and innovation

What collaborative strategies can help develop useful policies to achieve these objectives? Is the interference of policy makers necessary or useful in these challenging times? Should government hesitate before intervening with strong but often random legislation that forces these relationships to change?
